Question Food Intolerances...

I have been going through some difficult times lately. I have gone through every test you can think of and my specialist is saying that I probably have IBS. My problem is that I cannot eat properly anymore. I am lactose, garlic, corn, preservative, whole wheat intolerant. I still have to do my fructose and sorbitol test though. I have lost between 20-24 pounds in the past 4-5 months. I hardly eat anymore because I am either experiencing extreme abdominal pains, severe bloating, and/or severe acid reflux. So, already a lot of food was cut out because of the acid reflux. Now I am told to cut out even more. All my results have come back negative, even for celiac disease. I go through a lot of pain and/or discomfort every day. I am sure that it is not IBS. I don't know what to think though. I have entered into a slight depression. I am always irritated, frustrated, very fatigued and very weak. Is there someone out there who might know something that I don't? Or who can relate with this and understand what I am going through? HELP!!!!

Even if you don’t believe it, IBS can cause all of those of which you feel especially under stress. It is the same for me, lactose intolerant and wheat as well. I have made the adjustments but haven’t noticed much of a change. If it is IBS certain foods you eat could trigger it. Have you gone on a diet to figure out what you can eat?
If you can stand it, they say don’t eat for 3 days then slowly introduce different foods into your body.. and you will find out what you can and cant handle. Also, just because you have food intolerance doesn’t mean you cant eat the food every again. A lot of people are intolerant to different levels of food.. For example, if I eat a little cheese (a piece of pizza) I will be fine but if I eat three pieces I will have stomach problems. So research a little more and you’ll find your options to not be so limited.

Hi Arzin,
I know exactly how you feel! I have not had any food allergy tests yet but have had a whole lot of other tests! Ultrasound, CT scan, Gallbladder and liver function test, Endoscopy and numerous blood tests. I will be seeing a gastroenterologist on the 27th at Mayo Clinic(maybe she will find the problem) I wish you luck in finding yours!
B-Jean
symptoms-pain moves around the abdominal area and into my back.
only diagnosed with gallbladder polyps(which doctors are unsure how to treat) and a hemangioma on my liver(which is not worriesome)

Hi B-Jean,
Thanks for responding. I have also tested positive for fructose intolerance as well as lactose and wheat intolerant. All my other tests have come back negative. I am also being tested for hypoglycemia, I tend to get light headed and faint right after eating. I am very frustrated and quite fatigued. I am doing endless amounts of blood testing and I wish someone could do just one test that will check for everything.
I am sorry to hear that you are going through almost the same thing as me if not worse. I wish you luck with your test this month. Keep me posted. I know this might sound stupid and please don't take this the wrong way but I am glad you responded to my problem, at least there is someone else out there who is going through the almost the same thing. At least I know that I am not alone. Do you also have the problem of staying away from certain foods?

I'm new to this board so please forgive me if this has already been said but I found that MSG (monosodium glutamate) brings on violent bouts of cramping and diahrrea. Many canned and pre-packaged foods contain MSG so I have to read all labels before buying anything but it has paid off in a big way. I was diagnosed with IBS many years ago but have found that my symptoms have all but disappeared since eliminating MSG from my diet.
