Post nephrotic sydrome

I am a 56 year old female and I was told I had nephrotic sydrome 2 yrs. ago I was not able to take the steroid treatment and have been on cyclosporin off and on for the last year and a half. My doc. is wanting to put me back on it for another 2 yrs. Is there any adult out there who is on this treatment and how long have you been on it. I need to talk to someone who has been there. Thanks grannyshearin

Talking

Hi,

I have not taken it myself, but have worked with renal patients who have. Neoral (Cya) or Cyclosporine is normally taken by renal transplant patients to prevent rejection.

Personally, most of the patients I have seen with nephrotic syndrome have been on steroid therapy rather than Cya. Cya is a drug that causes renal toxicity, so the blood levels need to be kept within certain limits to prevent someone going into renal failure from Cya toxicity.

Do you have a problem that prevents you from taking the steroids?

Take care

Sarah
