Question liver transplant

I recently donated 60% of my liver to my 54 y.o. father. He had PSC (primary sclerosis cholingitis) and a mild scerosis that was becoming life threatening. His body rejected my liver 3 weeks after surgery (the surgery went well for both of us) and is on a heavy regiment of immuno-suppresant drugs. My question is how long can he be on such heavy and toxic drugs, what are the side effects, what are the long term effects (i read he might develop liver and pancreatuc cancer) and is there any alternative medicine or way to live with less drugs??? any insight or experience with long term effects of liver transplants will be appreciated. gracias.
