hepatic adenoma

searching for support (group or site) or anyone else w/ same.. have a benign tumor probably caused or enlarged by oral contraceptive use. approx 5 cm in size, directly in center of 3 branches of hepatic artery. waited for shrinkage with no result. Causes pain just below rib cage front and/or back when sitting or standing, horizontal is the ony semi-comfortabe position. only treatment available is surgery to remove w/ approx 1/2 to 2/3 or liver with it. because of size and location liver cannot be resected.

Hello - I have hepatic adenomas as well. I was just released from the hospital recently. I am very curious to find out the course of treatment.

so far the options I'v heard are 1. stop ocp's and wait for shrinkage
2. "shave" the tumor with a laser type treatment (not recomended near blood flow, the blood carries the heat away from treatment area so it isn't as effective. The heat can also cause blood clots.) This kills the tissue, but it is still in place.
3. remove tumor
I'm going in to hospital on Nov 13th for removal, hopefully a resection, although they told me I could lose 1/2 to 2/3 of the liver.
what treatment options were you given? apparently there's no drugs or radiation types for this.

My Doctors want me to see a specialist at the University of Pittsburgh - Falk Clinic. His name is Dr. Fung. Now my Doctors arent sure if they are in fact adenomas. Who is your Doctor???

Dr. Andrew De La Torre at University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark and I've seen Dr. R. Reddy at University of Philidelphia. Both in the Liver Transplant divisions.
