Question HELP!

I am VERY worried about my mother who is experiencing EXTREME depression. Lately, she has become very moody, constantly depressed for no apparant reason, and easily angered. Not to mention a lack of enthusiasm towards life. She is very much to herself on this subject. I am aware that my mother has not had a period in a few years. I also am aware that she is taking prometrium for about the length of time that she has been experiencing this depression. I am wondering if these symptoms have been experienced by anyone else with this medication. Is this common? I am so worried and I just don't know if prometrium is causing these awful symptoms. It is terrible to see someone you love not know why they are so depressed. It hurts not to be able to help. Please if anyone else has any comments or experiences similar to what I mentioned above, do not hesitate.
Yours truly, Suzi

Thumbs up

I think this happens to women. Prometrium [progesterone, I believe] has a negative effect on many women. Some women are ok with Prempro, it helps their sad feelings. Not so for me, I needed Prozac. What a difference! I am happier, and have my life back. This is very common; menopause exacerbates depression. I was crying and sad and anxious all the time. It hurt relationships, job, etc. Show your mom your message. I am 56 years young and tried various antidepressants. I was diagnosed by 2 psychs, and my family doctor. I assure you I am and was always sane and swift and I did not want to try Prozac because of the media stories. It takes a little time, and she may need a different med, but start low and gradually up the dose. The right med can change her life. My friend is 11 years on Prozac; she's slim, funny, and works as a legal assistant/paralegal which is not an easy job. Good luck to you and your mom.
