Question anxiety and possible menopause

For the past 2 years, I have had a lot of anxiety. I have been seeing a psychiatrist and have been taking Zoloft and Xanax at bedtime. I asked her if my anxiety was hormone related and she said I was still getting my period, so she did not think this was the reason for my attacks. I am beginning not to believe her! I am 47 years old. I wanted to try something natural, such as the creams I see advertised. I would love to not have to take Zoloft and Xanax. Also, I wake up at night very warm. Sometimes my heart races and I can't seem to relax. I do take Synthroid for my thyroid, and have had this checked to see if this could be causing my symptoms, but everything there is OK. Can anybody help or offer me any suggestions. I am tired of being tired all the time!

Yes I believe it can be menopause related as I am having the same thing. Neve was a stressed person or had anxiety attacks before but have been having them for 8 months now. Been working with OB/GYN and PCP and tried different hormones was alittle better. I have just started taking Paxil as attacks were starting to run my life. There is a great site for menopause where you will learn alot and also everyone very friendly and helpful. Check it out www.earlymenopause.com
hope it helps you.

I always found I was depressed and anxious with "perimenopause", menopause, and post-menopause. I believe your instincts are correct. I take Xanax to sleep as I have insomnia; another wonderful gift of menopause. I am also on Prozac which I take in the morning. I don't mind being a little tired, having a little insomnia, as long as I'm reasonably happy and the Prozac has balanced my chemistry, and I am no longer anxious or depressed. I did have to go to 40 mgs. I'm staying on it! Forget 'natural' products; you're throwing your money away. I've spent a fortune through the years on all kinds of 'natural' products, none of which really work. Believe me, St. John's Wort is not Prozac by a long shot! Remifemon never helped my hot flashes. Ginsing did not help my memory, and Feverfew did not help my migraines. Also, besides being ineffective, none of these are covered by medical insurance. I hope you feel better.
