Hi, I was recently dx with MS in June. Got a second opinion from one of the best hospitals in the U.S. I was questioning the dx because my lumbar puncture was not conclusive that I had MS. The Doctor at this hospital after reviewing my MRI and other test stated that in his opinion I had MS, and that I should start taking Betaseron or Avenox ASAP.
Actually, I was seen by three neurologist because my neurologist was on vacation when my MRI results came back, and I had gotten worse. I go to the Neurology Center in my area, and the doctor who originally dx me is one of the leading doctor in my area, and is very well known. ( Just to let you know that the LP could come back negative and you could be treated for MS)
Although my LP came back negative, the MRI, my symptoms (double vision, could not walk with out assistance, could not hold objects in my left hand, etc), evoke potentials - VEP, and other negative test which could mimic MS stated differently.
I have learn if one of the test (MRI, LP, and evoke potentials) which is used to dx MS does not come back positive you are dx with Probable MS until you get a second exacerbation.
However, my last exacerbation was my second one, the first time I was not dx, but given anti-inflammatory medication which helped sinificantly.
I was fearful of taking Avenox because I had a friend who was on Betaseron. When he first started the medication, he was in so much pain. However, I am taking Avenox and had very little problems taking it other than chills, and I feel like I am 95% back to my old self. I also account this to my faith in God, and my belief in his healing power.
I hope this help.
