Post Anyone here know about ilioinguinal nerve?

ten years of pelvic, hip, low back pain. Caused by a traumatic childbirth.

Lots of misdiagnoses, dead ends, psychiatric referrals, you all know the drill...

Last four years in physical therapy for pelvic floor tension myalgia (dx'd at Mayo) and SIJD, piriformis syndrome. They finally stabilized my SI joint and...drum roll....my symptoms WORSENED!!!!!

So. New search for new docs. New theory: a doc says he's seen people like me before and the problem is not coming from the back, but from ilioinguinal nerve entrampment, impingement or an undetected hernia.

He noted that I have an old laparotomy scar, a honking one as a matter of fact, that, in his words 'clearly invaded the inguinal canal'. His thought is that scar tissue from that could have shifted during the traumatic delivery and started this whole mess.

He did a lidocaine injection on me last week. It was really, really nice for a couple of hours. I can't say that my pain was gone, but it subsided substantially. Does that mean he is right? What do I do next?

Looking for answers.....

I'm not sure of an answer, but it is a real pain and can be caused by either childbirth or lower abdominal surgery..some docs have even suggested strain.i have hurt on my left side, some said it is pelvic pain, others say it is refered pain from back problems. well, i have had back surgery and yup, it's still there. sometimes to where i can't even stand up straight oh- and forget attempting to carry anything...
so if anyone does have an answer or possible solution, i'm all for it.but i've not gotten any advise that has made any difference, at least not for any length of time..........

Granny,

Thanks for your post -- glad to know someone is out there!

What exactly was the purpose of your surgery? Could you share more about your symptoms? I'd like to know whether we have a similar condition.

They say knowledge is power...

Hello Ladies:Never fear for rocky59 is near!I would be willing to bet you ten to one that your conditions are Pudendal Neuropathy.I would also like to advise you that when it comes to treating Pudendal Neuropathy there are less than 10 doctors in the United States who have any understanding of this condition, and not one of these doctors is an expert. In fact the only real expert that I know of is Doctor Roger Robert in Nantes France.

No one has ever suggested pudendal neuropathy with me, although I have certainly wondered about it. I have heard about Dr. Robert, so I know who to go to if that comes up.

I'm wondering what got edited out of the last response?
