Question Sural Nerve Biopsy

Hello: Just wondering if anyone could answer a question for me. I just had a sural nerve biopsy done on my ankle a week ago. The soreness is gone but I have numbness and when I move my foot certain ways it feels like an electric current is going thru it. I can't seem to reach my doctor and he gave me no instructions. This was done to find out what kind of neuropathy I have thats made my hand useless and seems o be moving around gradually. Any info on a nerve biopsy effecting the hands or feet would really be appreciated
Thankyou

Tell your kids you're not crazy! I had a sural nerve
biopsy 6 weeks ago today. In the beginning I had
the electric shocks plus some tearing feelings in the
heel area. I have had other problems too such as my
incision popping open and today is still draining.

I know what you mean about the Doctors not telling you
what to expect! They act like it's not a big deal, but
to you and me it is. Good luck on your diagnosis. I
haven't received my results as yet.

Hi Mega,
I'm new to this forum, but not to Neuropathy. I had a Nerve & Muscle Biopsy done at the same time back in 2001. Because I have Neuropathy in my feet, and my feet are totally numb anyway, the biopsy just made that foot feel a lot more number if that makes sense. I'm not sure what nerve they took, but it was on the outside of my ankle and the Doc told me that foot would be totally numb after he removes the nerve. I had a choice of what foot. Shooting pains were always there and the surgery did not seem to make the shooting pains better or worse. My foot is still really numb.

I too have no evident reason to have Neuropathy, meaning I'm not diabetic, or an alcoholic...Nothing came from my biopsy to tell my DOC why this is happening. I have Hepatitis C and my Neurologist is trying to link my Neuropathy to that. But nothing comes back at 100% saying the Hepatitis is the cause of it.

I wish you the best of luck and keep us informed on what you find out.

Carla
