Post Fear of planes crashing...

I have this insane fear that a plane is going to crash down on my house. It only comes at night, and during the day I can realize how stupid it is, but at night I can't reason like that. I think I might be suffering from anxiety because of this, and I lose a lot of sleep. Any advice/help, whatever, someone can offer would be greatly appreciated!

First of all, don't worry about how obscure or eccentric your fear might seem. Everyone has their own little special quirks about themselves, and that's what makes you you.

To help overcome it, you need to try to comprehend it this way:

I'm sure you've heard that flying is the safest mode of travel, which I know is hard to believe, seeing how devestating the crashes are when they DO happen. Traveling by car is something like 1,000 times more dangerous. Try and think of it like this: Approximately, the chances of a large commercial boeing jet crashing somewhere in the world today: 0.001%... the chances of it crashing in, of all places, your hometown: 0.00000001%... and lastly, the chances of it crashing directly on your roof: pretty much nil. Just concentrate on that when you get ready for bed, and try some relaxation techniques too. I hope things work out for you...

I have the same exact fear, and like you it only happens at night. I've also developed a new one, that the floor of the bedroom is going to collapse while I sleeping in the bed (we're on the 2nd floor). I have always had a lot of fears and sleep problems, and I think it's just all of my anxieties coming out in some way shape or form. But at 3am when I hear a plane, knowing that sure doesn't seem to help me any! Anyway, just wanted to let you know you are not alone.

Re: Fear of planes crashing...

I could never get in a plane for fear of it crashing,or a boat incase it sinks,I also dont know how i would go living in a block of units,if i did it would have to be on the top floor in case the building fell, and it wouldnt be able to be too high,i worry about things falling in me all the time,if i go to the movies or out to lunch i always have to look above me and if there is a light or fan or anything above me i have to move.
