Some of these scenarios sound like my son. He's 8 1/2 now, and is having such trouble at school. The teacher has cut down on the amount of work he has to do because he just doesn't have any concentration/attention span to sit still and do it. He would much rather day dream, or more likely, watch the other children. If he's in a room by himself, you'd think he'd work better, but then he'd daydream, play with his paper and pencil, whatever. He's been to the doctor for a physical a few weeks ago, and since I've not heard anything regarding the urine and blood tests, I assume everything is fine there. He's also going to see a psychologist in three weeks. Hopefully they'll be able to fill us in on what's going on. With all the looking around online I've been doing the last few months though...he seems to have some symptomos of ADD...some symptoms of dyslexia...and possibly something they refer to as a visual learner. We're realizing he seems to have an almost photographic memory. If he forgets something, he'll look in his book from school, but be doing it in his mind. He's constantly having to be reminded to do some things, like when he has a slice of cheese in the living room to put the wrapper in the garbage. He's a smart kid...knows his stuff at school...he's in grade three, and on an assesment they did at school, he's averaging high grade two to mid grade three scores overall. His printing is grade one level, because he doesn't have the patience to do it, and he may be a perfectionist, so he gets upset when he sees it doesn't look great. His reading is a grade 6 level! The dyslexia aspects aren't so much interfering with his reading...more a case of reversing some letters, and more numbers. I've 'bout run out of ways to get him to do his homework without it taking all night, so his teacher said after an hour call it quits if he's actually done some. I don't know what else to do...I hope the psychologist can help us out, and hopefully without meds, but...we'll see I suppose
