Thank you for your reply. I know the side effects. They give you a lot of literature to look at. I really think the nasal spray is great. Although I guess if my condition warranted a more serious approach I would have to go with the pills. My doctor is very aware that I am alreay taking meds and not feeling well so he is very considerate. Although I am overweight - my back is aching. Could be this medication. Anyway, thanks a lot.
I WASNT AWARE THAT THE NASAL SPRAY WAS PRESCRIBED FOR LESS SEVERE CASES OF OSTEOPENIA OR OSTEOPEROSIS..I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE OTHERS..AS FOR THE BACK ACHE..I HAD LOWER BACK PAIN(BELOW THE WAIST) ON ACTONEL AND FOSAMAX..THAT I THOUGHT WAS IN THE AREA OF MY KIDNEYS..IT WAS ACCOMPANIED BY URINARY FREQUENCY AND OTHER URINARY PROBLEMS..I WAS FORCED TO DISCONTINUE USING BOTH DRUGS....I CANT USE THE NASAL SPRAY BECAUSE I HAVE A THIN MEMBRANE IN MY NOSE AND I AM AFRAID THAT I WILL GET NOSEBLEEDS ..SINCE THAT IS A SIDE EFFECT OF THE NASAL SPRAY...IF THE BACKACHE PERSISITS ..YOU MITE WANT TO STOP THE MIACALCIN TO SEE IF IT GOES AWAY...I REPORT ANY SIDE EFFECTS THAT ARE NOT DOCUMENTED ON THE DRUG CO LITERATURE TO BOTH THE DRUG CO AND THE FDA..
i just heard dr michelle warren from ny presbyterian hospital speak on the nasal spray calcitonin...she said that it was a less effective way of treating bone loss..than either fosamax or actonel..and that it was used for patients who could not tolerate the other two medications..so from that i conclude that the decision to prescribe miacalcin should not be based on the fact the a patients bone less is minimal..but rather on their inability to tolerate fosamax or actonel....its seems like this should never be the first choice in a course of treatment for either osteopenia or osteoperosis to me.
