I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis of the hips and Osteopenia of the spine. I was on Evista for little over a year and retested. I was told spine improved some and hips got worse so I will switch to 70mg Fosomax tomorrow. MY QUESTION IS: Has anyone with osteoporosis experienced severe side rib pain? I've been going to doctors for over a year now and have had everything I can think of checked (lungs, heart, digestive system). I've been to spine specialist that sent me to physical therapy. When her treatment didn't work, she referred me to a physiatrist. During brief exam, he could not find anything unusual. He did look at some rib xrays I had taken July 2000 and said he could see signs of osteoporisis in my ribs. Thank you for anyone who responds. In pain and desperate for answers.

I have also been diagnosed with osteopinia in 2000, but it became worse, and just was put on fortero injections in Octorber of 2004. The doctor said I should feel some difference in 3 months, and I have. My main complaint was rib pain, back and hip pain. My rib pain is just about gone! My mother also had rib pain, but unfortunetly she passed before fortero was used. Maybe you could speak to your doctor about this injections.

Tha is so interesting to me as I also have frequent rib pain and I cannot lay on my stomach as I feel as if my ribs are going to be crushed. They are feeling a little bit stronger as I now do yoga but I have had three rib fractures in the past and feel I have to be so careful. Nice to know I am not alone, I really feel it at night when I lay on my side to go to sleep. It is not real pain, just discomfort. Laying on my stomach gives me real discomfort so I avoid that altogether. I don't feel the "cage" is protecting me like it should be, that is for sure!! T-scores in my spine are bad, hips only in the osteopenia range.... good luck!!
There is a condition called costochondritis where the cartilage around the ribs and sometimes sternum becomes inflamed and causes pain. I too have these symptoms, in addition to scoliosis and osteoporosis. I'm sure it's all interrelated in some way!
