Question

I am a 45 year old with MS.I have taken prednison for my MS since 1985.I started hurting in my bones and they took a bone density test. The tech asked me a lot of questions and one was did I take steroids and if so the dose. I told her the doses and why would that matter? She said that steroids could cause osteoporosis. I do have severe osteoporosis in my whole body now, They tried me on Fosomax but because of sever stomach problems can not take it. In a few days I will begin infusions of aredia.I did not know the side effects of steroids and really to scared to ask doctors questions about my meds. If you have concerns talk to your doctors.Get as much information as you can to satisfy your questions.

Hi,Prednisone taken in high quantities can cause Avascular Necrosis to hips, knees, ankles, shoulders and possibly around the spine.Check with your Doctor or specialist if you have not already done so.I've been on Prednisone for the treatment of Hodgkins(cancer)and it has caused AVN TO BOTH MY HIPS.See my posting about osteoporosis caused by treatments to cancer near top of list.
yours Keith.
