I understand your shock, I'm 54 and was diagnosed at 50, I thought I was doing it all right, exercise, I'm a dairy freak, take extra calcium and yet I have osteo in the spine and hips now. Taking actenol and so far so good, some upset tummy now then but not always. I walk the treadmil(bad weather days)35 to 50 minutes 5 days a week, I use the incline to 10% for half the treadmill walk, lift weights but my Dr said some times you can do all the right things but still be predisposed to the condition. My mother is 73 and has no osteo and in fact her bones are better than mine. Whatever, you need to consider taking something, the first year I tried to do it my way, diet and exercise, I had osteo in the spine and osteopenia in the hips, after that first year my bone scan showed osteo in hips as well and 10% more bone loss in the spine, I had to stop fooling myself and take the drug(I hate to take meds)I don't want to end up like my grandmother, bed ridden from it.
