Wink New Here- Need Experienced Advice

Hi!

I am new to this board. I have two boys, ages 4.5 and 10 mos. I am concerned with my 4.5 yr. old. He is showing "symptoms" of ADD. I suspect my husband has it, although he will not follow up on it. I would like to hear from other parents as to when they first suspected it in their children. I have no idea if 4.5 is too early or not. I just am tired of hearing from relatives that I should be doing something to control him when he get's "out of control". They say things about him in front of him & it huts me, not to mention what it does to him. I try not to react to their words in front of him, I don't want him to see things like that bother me. He is very sweet, he is not destructive, but he IS very aggressive and cannot sit still. He seems to go into his own world and do weird stuff. Any Suggestions?

Hi! I will tell you that 4.5 is definetly not too young to diagnose ADD. My son was 5 when he was diagnosed with ADHD and it was almost too late. At least that what the Drs told me. My son, also, did weird things, was destructive and can get very mean. I would recommend you talk to a mental health dr and see what they can do. I am so thankfull I finally did that. In 6 months time, with therapy and meds. (which I still hate giving him) he is doing much better. I hope this helps a little.

My son is now 10 1/2. We first started suspecting about the age of 2 1/2. We sought professional help at that time too. Eventually we did look at medication (about 6 yrs. old) which has helped. Family therapy helped us too.....now everyone has an idea what is going on with him (as far as trying to understand the ADHD/ADD) it is very stressing to try and explain it over and over when others do not understand. Seek help now. Do not wait. Try and get ahold of a good behavior therapist that will work with your whole family. Good luck!

Hi, there are adequate test that can be done to make sure your child is correctly diagnosed. My daughter had a tova test. This test is done by a neurologist. This is a
computer based testing and has shown to be
very accurate for testing of ADD&ADHD.
Good Luck

Hi- My son is ADHD and was diagnosed when he was 4 years old. He couldn't even sit still to do the testing that had to be done. He was also very aggressive, violent, mood swings. He is now 10 and doing great. He is also Bipolar (the violence, mood swings and agressiveness) OCD. Definently talk to a Pshc. Dr. They can be very helpful.
Good Luck!
