Question Does he have it??

My husband just started going back to school for Computers this week. He has always said that he isn't a school person and infact quit high school in 11th grade. Now that he is back in school he says that he can't pay attention to the instructor and it is worse than just his mind wondering. He says he moves around and tapps his pen so much that he starts to annoy the people around him. He also says that he can't read 3 words without his mind drifting off to something else. He can read a page several times and not remember a thing because his mind wonders. It's not like he can't learn, he has built 2 databases on his own and is one of the best alarm/remote start installers around. He is incredable in Math and sometimes helps me and I am a senior at Rutgers University. Could he just be "not a school person" or could he have ADD? I want to help him but I don't know how. If he has ADD I know he won't take meds everyday for it!!! How can I help him be able to focus???? ANy help is GREAT!

It sounds like he could have ADD. My family has found ritalin to be very beneficial but we usually only take it in situations were focusing is a must - such as days on which there is an exam or a paper to write or a situation where it is important to think clearly.

Perhaps your husband could get some accomodations at school. I did qualify for acco***tions which included a note-taker if I wished, extra time for exams etc. Perhaps your husband could get some testing - schools are often really good about that.( I had 6 hours of individual testing for learning disabilities at my college and discovered I had several besides the ADHD.)
