Question the pill

i just have some questions about bc pills. i want to start taking them, but there's no way i can tell my dad that. do i have to go to my doctor? because this would be a problem. so that's my first question: how can i get them?

second, how long do i need to have been taking them for them to prevent pregnancy? in other words, how long before i have sex do i need to start? if i miss one, would i have to wait that same amount of time again before they'll work?

any other information would be very much appreciated

You can go to your regular doctor and he/she cant say anything to your dad. You can also go to a planned parenthood clinic or a health clinci and get them. No matter who you go to you will need to get a pap exam and talk to the person about your family hisotry so he/she know what proper birth control to put you on.
Also you need to make your partner use a condom no matter how long you have been on the pill. The pill wont protect you from stds and the pill can fail no matter how perfectly you take it. Your doctor or such can explain in detail about missing pills and such. That is another reason condoms are so important.

Go to the doctor, get put on them. If your dad asks you what they're for, give any number of reasons, ranging from terrible terrible cramps that you didn't feel like detailing because he's a guy and it makes you uncomfortable or regulating your period or some other retarded reason.

Lots of chicks take BCP without using them for sex.

Yeah tell your dad its for your skin, or your cramps have been getting worse or your periods are very irregular and he'll probablly be quite happy to take you along to get some if it will shut you up! Lol.

If you don't want to tell your dad anything, your doctor is not legally allowed to say anything so don't fret!

I know hundreds of people on the pill (including myself) and not one of them (including me again) has had to have a pap exam.-Could that just be cos its an american thing though?

i don't think having a pap for bcp's is an american thing..my friend is on them (for acne) and i'm pretty sure she woulda mentioned that when we were talking about it. but then, i could be wrong.

anyway, you're all telling me to go to the doctor. this means i'll have to schedule an actual appointment, yes? so i'll need my dad to know about it ahead of time, and i have a really really hard time asking him about stuff. i can't ever see myself telling him i want a doctor's appointment for something like cramps or acne. as for planned parenthood, what's that all about? i've heard of it obviously, but i know nothing about it. any information at all would be helpful.
