Post Concerta doages....

If any of you have your kids on Concerta, what mg are they on? My 12 yo son is on 36 mg and has been for over a year now. I never thought about maybe talking with his doc about increasing for this school year but now that he is not doing well at all so far I wonder....he is doing absolutely NOTHING in class. Just never gets started or daydreams the whole time and is argumentative when confronted with why he has nothing done. He's probably around 100 lbs give or take a few....

Just wondering what ages/weight your kids on Concerta are and the dose amt????? I'm mtg with his teachers today and I think I may give a call to the doc Monday morn......

THANKS
Jamie

Jamie,

My 13 yo son is on 54mg Concerta. He started on 18mg in early August (first time on meds), and he felt no different, so the doc upped to 36mg, and he still said he felt no different. He is not hyper, just inattentive, so it was hard to tell in the summer if it was making a difference. The doc upped it to 54mg, and he still says he is feeling no difference, although I do think he is being much less forgetful and more focused when doing homework. I now wonder if we could have stayed on 36mg (or even 18mg) with the same results.

He has had no side effects at all from Concerta so far, is able to eat and sleep fine. He is a very tall and skinny kid (5'11", 130lbs), but weight has nothing to do with the dosage. I'm in the opposite situation as you, wondering if I should ask for a decrease and see how that works. If he was having adverse side effects I definitely would do that.

Good luck to you,
Neelie

My son is on 27mg of concerta. He is 9 years old and weighs 56 pounds. From what I understand this med dosage is not by weight.

My son was on 54 mg of Concerta from the time he was 8 1/2 until he was 10. He weighed about 60 pounds, though it is not administered by weight.

My son is 9, weighs 75 pounds and is on 36 mg. After taking this dosage for about a year now, and a decline in all areas, I'm getting his meds reviewed to either up the dosage or introduce a combination of a new one with the concerta...

Best of Everything.
