Post STDs

Will a CBC blood test show if you have an STD? I had sex with a girl that I met at a party a while back, and sort of worried about it afterwards because I found out that she has been around a few times so to speak.

I have not had any symptoms, and recently had my annual physical where the doc did a CBC which came back normal.

Will the CBC pick up an STD like Syphilis, or do you have to get a special test?

I have taken a course of Amoxicillin, as well as Zithromax (Z-Pac) for Bronchitus recently. Would that have killed off any bugs that I might have caught?

A CBC will not pick up a STD. You need special tests.

There are blood tests availables for Syphilis and HIV. For HIV, you need to wait at least three months after the incident. For Syphilis, consult your doctor.

For HPV, see the answers to "Yet another HPV question". For Herpes, do not worry if you do not have symptoms.

The antibiotics you have taken would have killed most bacterial STDs (Gonorrhea and Chalmydia among others) but not Syphilis and not the viral STDs. Do a check-up at your local clinic.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
