Post HPV info from herpes.org seems wrong

My doctor told me that the warts on your fingers and the warts on your genitals cannot be transferred (aka you can't get HPV by masturbating if you have warts on your fingers) however. At the HPV info site at herpes.org, they claim that they ARE transferable strains.. any ideas or knowledge?

I think your doctor is wrong. You said that the HPV info site said that there are transferable strains which doesn't mean that ALL strains are transferable but some can be. I wouldn't take the chance and I think the only way to tell if you had the same strain in the genital area as on your fingers (if you indeed had it in both places) would be through expensive DNA testing (or something of that nature). I don't think it is common but I believe it can happen. I have read about this in the past but I don't recall where. I would suggest having the warts removed from the fingers so that wouldn't be a concern in the future.

So if you get the warts removed then the chances of getting HPV goes down? How long does it take to have the warts show up?

sometimes the warts never 'show up'... like mine. yet... you still have the virus. it's always good to get checked out periodically
