My nails peel too if I don't keep up my "routine". I make an honest effort to pay atention to my nails by filing them, buffing them and painting them with two coats of natural-coloured polish and then sometimes a hardener over top. I do this every three days or so and it's honestly saved my nails - especially the buffing. My nails are so perfect that I'm often questioned whether they are fake or not!! This whole routine of really caring for my nails has really cut down on the peeling, and my nails have never looked so good.

As for polish I use Sally Hansen polishes, and I'm addicted to her Hard As Nails with Nylon, in a beigey-pink colour (it's quite sheer), and then I will often use Sally Hansen Instant Strength clear polish over top.

Thanks! I must admit that I don't really take as good care of my nails as I should, so I guess I have to start a new habit! Nothing comes easy in life!

Nail will peel in layers when they are dried out; whether they are soft or hard makes very little difference. What makes the difference is how much you have your hands in water or if you use household celaning solurtions without wearing gloves, or if you work with paper or other textiles on a daily basis. All of these things will wick the natural oils and moisture from your nails and result in a peeling nail plate. Rather than start out by applying polish, it is my recommendation that you use a good quality nail and cuticle oil oin a daily basis to replenish the low levels of oil and moisture in the nail plate. I say this because the majority of nail polishes, including nail hardeners, contain formaldehyde which is a natural drying agent.

You can purchase Botanical Oil from Sally Beauty Supply nationwide or Solar Oil from your local nail salon. Apply to the nails and massage in at LEAST twice daily and always before bedtime.

After your nails become healthier, then you can apply polish and it will actually stay on the nail plate without peeling off due to the current unhealthy state of your nails.

Well, I must admit I work in an office and handle a lot of papers everyday. I use rubber gloves when I do the dishes, but I wash my hands often and when I cook I rinse my fingers often. My nails ARE very dry... I will try to use the oil at first, and then I will use some form of nail hardener, since my nails always breaks in my very active life.

Thanks! (I checked your website and bookmarked it!)
