Question Eczema on eyelinds

The entire area around my eyes is deep red (with some white flaking), sometimes a bit swollen and very itchy. Four weeks ago I was diagnosed by my dermatologist as having eczema. He prescribed Elidel cream which I have been apply twice a day. However, my eyes are still red and itchy. I cannot wear any eye makeup because they all burn and increase the redness of the area. Any cover-up makes the flakes even more noticeable under my eyes (the area seems very dry). I also wear contact lenses. Any suggestions for makeup that I will be able to wear (i.e. mascara, eye shadow) and/or use to cover up this problem (concealer)? How much longer till the Elidel cream takes effect? What other products would help ease my stinging/itching? Thank you!

This sounds like seborrheic dermatitus to me. Is this what your doctor said you have? I've never heard of Elidel, but a 1% hydrocortisone creme, such as Cortizone 10 is often quite effective in alleviating such symptoms.

I read somewhere that you can use Oil of Olay Age Defying Lotion becuz it contains salicylic acid which exfoliates the flaky patches and soothes the redness.

And also you could try Evening Primrose Oil, it contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) which is what eczema sufferers need.

jmk416:

i had the same exact problem last winter...the cold was drying out my skin like crazy...i thought i was a rash, but i went to my dermatologist and he told me it was severely dry skin (like yours) and he wrote out a prescription for Locoid...its a hydrocortisone that works like a miracle...after a few days the flakes and redness were gone and after about a week my skin was really smooth and soft from the petroleum jelly in it...try asking your doctor about Locoid...or some other similar product...hope that helps...good luck with it
