Post EXTREMELY dry skin?

This guy I'm dating has extremely dry skin. It gets so bad that it cracks and it hurts him. We live in a pretty dry part of the United States. He says that some lotions actually irriate his skin and so he doesn't use them. Does anyone have any advice for what he should do? I think he has been to a dermatologist, but I was wondering if anyone else suffers from the same problem. Does anyone know of any good lotions? I hate seeing him suffer with this! Thanks!

Love, Jen

Does he use a humidifier? If not, he should try it.
Also a good lotion he might try is cetaphil. It is fragrance free and made for dry sensitive skin.

if it is dry skin on his hands i would have him put on a really thick cream like mary kay emollient night cream then dip his hands in one of those paraffin spas (not very expensive). don't know if you could get a guy to do this, but if you dip them several times then sit for 10 or 15 minutes with plastic baggies over your hands before removing the wax, it does help.

A humidifier is a really good idea.

Also, the Body Shop does a body butter for extremely dry skin that's meant to be really good. Because its from the Body Shop its not going to have a bunch of nasty ingredients that irritate the skin.

You could also get him to go to another dermatologist for a second opinion. The doc could probably prescribe a cream to help him out.

Take care and good luck.

Nic

P.S. Make sure your guy is drinking LOTS of water. That always helps.

I suggest Aquaphor. It is similar to vaseline, but instead of being oil based it is water based. I use it on my hands and feet (then wear gloves/socks to bed) and also on my lips.
