Question

So if you can't use this machine what happens. Is sleep apnea deadly, does it hurt other parts of your body? Is there any other way to deal with this. Thanks

Sleep apnea, if it obstuctive sleep apnea can cause much damage if not treated. What happens with this type is that the tissue in your throat has become looser or increased. When you sleep it closes and may cause breathing interuptions. My husband use to stop breathing for up to 40 sec. at a time. This awakens you but, usually you never know but, you wake up tired. My husband had the surgury to remove the tissue. His case was mild to moderate but, the surgury in many cases cures the problem by removing it. If you have any more inffo. I can help with please write me on the Fibromyalgia board. Good luck and don't worry the test is nothing. Pretend you are going to a hotel for the night. Take care and hope you had a good holiday, Kim

Joyce47oh, Make sure that your mask fits correctly, sometimes after weight loss/gain the mask needs to be adjusted. Also tell your doctor about the problem, he may suggest increasing the setting, it may not be high enough to keep your airway open through the night, thus interupting your ability to enter REM sleep leaving you tired in the A.M.
P.S. Yes sleep apnea is a serious condition when you stop breathing from the obstruction at night your brain is unable to recieve fresh oxygen and so is the rest of the body. Energy levels go down , memory is a problem, etc. so keep up with your doctor for the best treatment for you.
