Post Mysterious Periodic Insomnia (?)

Hi.. I'm pretty new to this because I've always slept pretty healthy and well. For a little more than a week now I've had strange symptoms of illness:

very swollen, atypical glands (right bigger than left)
moderate fever during the nights, light fever during the day
general feeling of malaise

that was it for most of this week. On last Monday, I visited the Doctor and over the weekend, a small swollen node/bump 3 inches behind my left ear on the back of my head became very painful, the left gland became less swollen and painful, and the right gland was so hard and spanned so much of my right neck I begun to have neck pain.

Along with this all week, I had been sleeping horribly. It consisted of being absolutely exhausted from the day, falling asleep at around 8-10 (normal time for me), but then waking up in periods of about 2 hours, the time between waking decreasing as morning approached.

Well, I had tried two types of sleeping meds, one for the fever, that had me out for about 1:30 hr:min, and then one for the pain.. that gave me a splitting headache and I couldn't fall asleep for another 2 hours.

Luckily the fever broke this past Monday night and I've been on Cefzil since Tuesday morning (despite not having the test results back). The sleep insomnia is, however, worsening, even as I am physically feeling better.

It feels like I'm not even really sleeping, because I fall into a dream and then just sit up in bed quite normally. A second later I realize I'm up again, I sigh and turn over... This happens many many many times in the night and has gotten so problematic, that I've just given up sometimes on sleeping, and go to sit at the computer, or go to the bathroom.

I'm sorry my posting is so long, but I'm sensitive to losing sleep (that's why I worked so hard at sleeping well and regularly before!). it's supposed to be my spring break, and I'm really at loss of how to make anything thats currently wrong with me better. Thanks for any help.
