Just for fun make up a spreadsheet and see how you can save a million by not smoking.
1 year @ $2/pack = $730 each and every year
Now the fun part
increase cost of cigs by 6%/year
every year invest the savings in a 10% return stock and by not starting smoking at age 18 you will have an extra million bucks by time you are 63

Just worked it up . . . my husband smokes avg. 14 packs/week at $2.75/pack = $2002/year!!!!!

I used to smoke about 7 packs per week. $1001/year!

So between the 2 of us, we spent $3003/year! NUTS!!!
