I am thirty years old and recently (Sept. 2000) suffered a stroke and a series of TIAs while in the hospital due to a spontaneous dissection of my carotid artery. My husband and I had made the decision in July, 2000 to become pregnant. Pregnancy has been put on hold, possibly indefinitely, largely because we don't know why my artery dissected and are not sure if other vessels are compromised. Pregnancy would be a calculated risk, but the stake is high! My doctors are struggling to find a case on point with mine and have advised that we think of alternatives to pregnancy.
I am desparate for information regarding pregnancy following a stroke due to a spontaneous dissection of the carotid artery. Has anyone heard of a successful pregnancy following this type of diagnosis?
Thank you!
