Question 2 Questions on Sickle Cell Trait?

1. I have sickle cell trait, my mom has Thalassemia trait.
So, is it true that my father must have sickle cell trait? Or could I have gotten this from a grandparent or so?

2. to what extent is sickle cell trait is symptom-less?
They kept saying it is symptomless, but then when they discovered that my hemoglobin is a bit low, they said that is normal for sickel cell trait people! So it has symptoms, not as sever as sickle cell major, but it does?
What are other things it might cause?

3. Thalassemia minor (trait) could cause spleen enlargement. Is this true with sickle cell trait too.?

Thanks and regards

Re: 2 Questions on Sickle Cell Trait?

1. Yes you would have to inherit from one of your parents.

2. Your iron levels should be in the normal range. If it's low then ask about iron supplements.

3. No you won't get an enlarged spleen.

Just avoid:
1. Having kids with someone else who has sickle cell trait or disease, or thalassemia trait or disease
2. Scuba diving
3. Mountain climbing
4. Unpressurized air craft
