Sinus infections contagious or not?? - Sinus Problems Message Board

Ok, I gotta know one way or the other. Are sinus infectioons contagious or not? I hear people saying yes, they are and then others say no.

Is there bacterial and viral sinus infections? And how does it get passed to others if it is contagious? Is it like a cold type thing or can anyone get it? I always thought that people get them from getting a cold or flu bug and then it can go into the sinuses if one is prone to getting them. I think I have only had it one time in my life. Someone please fill me in!!!

I don't think they are, I really don't know how it works medically, but my husband gets them frequently and I never got it from him - when I got it, he never got it from me, and since we are in close contact all of the time I would think if it was contagious we would have gotten it from eachother. We would both go to work, etc, and there was never a problem with anyone else getting it. If you punch in sinus infection on the internet there is quite a bit of info on the technicalities.

My understanding of sinus infections is that they start from a cold. Which is contagious. The cold then can turn into the sinus infection. You need to remember that you can only catch a strain of a cold once. Everytime you get a cold it is a different strain of the virus.

That is my understanding, too. You can catch a cold which may turn into a sinus infection. But the infection it's self is not contagious.

Thanks ya'll for the answers that I always thought was right. To me it is so funny how some people actually believe that you can get one just because alot of people around them have sinus infections. I also am always amazed tht people believe they can get sick because the weather changes too. Like changeing from hot to cold and then back to hot again. Or they will get sick just from getting cold. Geesh. I have only heard a few people in the past few years who really believe that too.

If that were true then anyone who works outside would be sick all the time. And kids would be sick year round in some places. It just seems so silly what people believe. Shoot the weather changes around here in the spring and fall. It can be freezing in the morning and get very hot that day and then have snow the next day. So anyway, thanks for clearing things up for me. Ya'll are so smart!
