Upper sinus infectiona and GERD--any relation? - Sinus Problems Message Board

I have just been diagnosed with an infection in the ethmoid and
sphenoid (upper) sinuses. I have had acid reflux for about a year; it developed following throat surgery for sleep apnea, which was then followed by inhalation pneumonia and a panic attack. Since then I have had chronic nausea, lack of appetite, dry and sour mouth, coated tongue. I've seen both a GI doc and ENT, and no one seems to be able to figure out if this is a GI, ENT or stress issue. I guess they are all related. I"m wondering if a lot of you on this forum have similar GI/sinus symptoms, especially the nausea and lack of appetite. The ENT put me on a heavy-duty antibiotic for the sinus infection, which I'm worried will create more havoc in my GI tract. Thanks!

What kind of throat surgery did you have for sleep apnea. I'm hesitant to jump into any kind of surgery unless its life or death situation cause a lot of times, trying to solve one problem brings on another.

I have LPR very bad for over fifteen years. I regularly have post-nasal drip, dry mouth, sour mouth, coated tongue, burning tongue, scratchy throat, thick mucus, constant clearing, bloody nose, etc...

I had UPPP surgery for obstructive sleep apnea, which I was told was severe. I couldn't tolerate the CPAP mask and all the docs I saw said I had to treat the OSA one way or another. The UPPP procedure removes the uvula and trims the upper palate--a surgery from hell. After a week I developed pneumonia, a panic attack, and then on to reflux, which has now moved on to my sinuses. I think all the antibiotics have wrecked my GI tract because I am frequently nauseated and have lost my taste for food. I'm trying to eat a lot of yogurt while on the antibiotic, and plan to see a nutritionist after the sinus problem clears up. I want to start feeling better again!

15 years is a long time. You took ppis all that time? What have your doctors recommended/done.

Capistrano: that sounds pretty scary. I couldn't go through that. I'm looking at info on the pillar procedure to fix sleep apnea but with my luck it probably another new technique which is not very effective.
