Unhappy Sinuses and Angxiety .. any news on this?

Hi All

I have been suffering with sinusitus and anxiety since 2004. I noticed there was an older archived thread that talked about a study going on in Australia about the possible link between the 2.

I have been on so many differen't antibiotics to get rid of this and it won't go away.

Finally ended up going on antidepressants to deal with the panic attacks caused by this. It's horrible.

I have had 3 CT scans that show the sinusitis is there but the quacks here in Canada won't fix the issue. My ears pop, eyesight in my right eye gets blurry, sometimes I get chest pains when it's real bad, and it is REALLY hard to concentrate on tasks at hand. An overwelmed anxious feeling comes over you and you can't stand anyone being around you. Plus the constant pressure behind my nose and especially my right eye, green discharge from my nose and stabbing pain associated with it is not fun to deal with.

Is there any good sinus centers in the states that anyone knows of?

Thanks

EW

Re: Sinuses and Angxiety .. any news on this?

There are many, but I can not give you there names. See if your local GP can give you a referral. I just had a full sinus surgery performed for similar issues. I am not suprised that the MD's there will not perform it. It is an extensive, invasive, and expensive procedure.. that with out the latest equipment is extremely difficult to perform. I am sure that there are excelent medical faccilities in the northern states. My procedure was outpatient and other than a long no travel/don't bend over restriction has been wonderful.

Anxiety is natural when you can not breathe. The blurry vision is a sinus pressure induced migraine. Sinusitus is very hard to treat surgically as well as with medicine. I tried years and years of treating mine with the maximumed allowable quant of decongestant, double the anti-histamine (zyrtec and allegra), steriodal spray (flonase then nasonex.. applied twice daily), saline sprays, an anti-colenesgic(sp?) (helps prevent cloting and stimulation of the nasal membranes), allergy shots and eventually a billaterial turboplasty.

All of this was not sufficient to prevent me from getting 6-9 infections a year. I even spent two whole years on anti-biotics. It finally took my ENT group down here performing a T&A combined with a full endoscopic sinus surgery with complete sinus window insertion and turbonectomy of the ethnoid and back sinus cavities. Basically my head was roto-rootered. Now I have not have a sinus infection since this was done in October. And sinus headaches? Rare. Normally the sinus headaches stem from overly dry sinuses which can be fixed with a quick saline spray application. I am off my decongestants, rarely use my nasonex, and only have to take zyrtec to control my allergies. I would seriously consider a second opinion if I were you.

Best of luck finding a solution. It took me ten years, but now it is better.
Respectfully,
MG
