Re: Chronic Sinusitis?

I think my MRI just said "sinus disease" but I just got the CT report and disc yesterday. Yes, according to that, there's "mucosal thickening" all over the place! I don't know though if it ever goes away once it's there. I need to start doing research and learning more about all this and before I jump into the surgery, I do want to get a second opinion. It's a little confusing but it sure reads like I'm a mess!!

Re: Chronic Sinusitis?

T~ Welcome to our world of sinus problems. Definately is interesting how many people with ms have this problem as well.

Bearygood~ I never read my CT scans when I had the past issue that resulted in the surgery. So I wouldn't be able to compare. I just know the reaccuring infections created a blockage and when they went in, lots of pollups were removed. If you find out any more on this, please let me know.
Your such a wiz on research and find so many interesting things along the way!!

Sounds like you have a bigger mess than me though, since mine is only on the left.

Just food for thought, I have battled this for years and I absolutely HATE taking antibiotics because I always end up with a yeast infection. The last time I had a miserable bout, I asked the pharmacist if there was anything I could use over the counter. He suggested the old fashioned vicks vapor rub, believe it or not. I then searched the shelves myself, and found an all natural nasal spray with mentholiptic that reduced membrane swelling and moisturized as well. This definately help to reduce the swelling in my nasal passages. I fealt better in a day. My family all tried it and all had a noticable improvement. I can't remember the name but I'll have to look it up again because it did work. Just thought I'd pass that along!! ~ Cindy

Re: Chronic Sinusitis?

Cindy, yes, I'd absolutely be interested in knowing the name if you can find it.

Welcome, other sinus sufferers! I know it might sound a little screwed up but part of why I find this stuff is my somewhat subsided but continual quest to find out WHY I wound up here. I've found way too much info. on a potential fungal/bacterial component to not believe it's at least a possibility and I also think that EBV may have had a role. Who knows, but regardless, I believe more and more every day that all of us did NOT get here the same way. And, if this is true, makes sense why the cure has been so hard to find.

Re: Chronic Sinusitis?

Bearygood~

Its called Sino Fresh. It kills nasal molds and bacterias (another topic we've hit on in the past)
I have purchased this at the drug store but have also found this on a popoular auction site. I think I'm going to invest in another bottle myself!!

Re: Chronic Sinusitis?

Cindy, your timing is impeccable! I had trouble finding it in the store -- had to order it through a local pharmacy and just picked it up last night! It was the regular one (there's a nasal moisturizing formula that I believe is new). Anyway, I've used it twice already and I DO feel a difference. I don't think that this will clear up a raging infection but as a preventative measure, I'd rather be using a homeopathic remedy than something a little more "potent". So far, I think this will work just as well!

I'm also going to try to be more diligent about the Netti pot (have you ever used one?) and I got a special formula to add to the salt, also made with natural oils. I'm short one oil but should be getting it tomorrow and will start then. (Let me know if you want the "recipe".)

Again, thanks for the recommendation! (Next time I'll be getting it online though -- it's pricey!)

Re: Chronic Sinusitis?

Hi Bearygood~

I bought it at a pharmacy for almost $20 but got this on auction for $6 including shipping!! It is the moisurizing formula.

When I have a full blown infection, I dry out really bad. My nose, my lips and mouth. Thats how I know I'm in trouble. (not to mention the headache and sinus pressure).

Last time this happened, I was in a full blow infection and it worked geat!! It reduces the swelling from the minty oils and opens up the airways. That helps the draining. My family all loved the effects and finished off my bottle!! Maybe I'll get them all one for XMas LOL

I saw the netti pots when I found this and it spiked my curiousity. What is it exactly? The oils sound helpful too. I'd love your "recipe" if you get a chance.

Cindy

Re: Chronic Sinusitis?

I got it for a little less than that and for my next bottle I was planning to get it online (I've seen it cheaper) but not through an auction site. Can't dispute that's a great price though; I've just been reluctant to purchase this kind of stuff through those sites in the past but maybe I'll think about it

Netti pots are nasal irrigation systems. They look like small teapots (actually, kind of like a little genie lamp!) and you fill them with a saline solution. It's water and sea salt -- can't recall the exact measurement right now but directions come with them (I THINK it's a 1/8 tsp.). You tilt your head and pour it into one nostril and it comes out of the other one and then do the other one (2 pots per irrigation, one time for each nostril). Yes, it's as daunting as it sounds as first but you get the hang of it quickly. (First time or two there's a good chance you won't get it right and it'll go down your throat. ) I absolutely recommend them -- they've been used for YEARS.

I wouldn't try this recipe as a newbie -- start with the regular (sea) salt and water but if you like it and think you can keep it up, here's an advanced version! I should be getting what I need later today and will let you know how I do.

12 drops rosemary oil
10 d. peppermint oil
5 drops eucalyptus radiata oil (not the same as regular eucalyptus)
4 drops melrose oil
1/2 cup sea salt. Mix oils into salt.

Put oiled salt nto 1 pint jar and shake well. Mix 3/4 teaspoon with 1 cup warm H20, use your choice of nasal irrigator; neti pot or nasal syringe. Keep filling until the cup of water and salt is used up.

Irrigate once in morning and once in evening.

Re: Chronic Sinusitis?

Bearygood~

The netti potts do sound like fun, I must say!! So in 1 nostril, out the other? I never new that that could happen!!

I'll keep the recipe for future referance. I'll definately look into them. The oils are similiar to whats in the spray so I'm sure the benefits will be as great.

As far as auction shopping goes, I do it if its a sealed box and dated. And saves me money. Thats a bonus!!

Thanks a buch

Cindy

Re: Chronic Sinusitis?

I've had chronic sinus problems for years myself...hmmm. I can't remember a day in the past 12 years that I haven't either had some type of congestion from very minor when I first wake up then goes away or a full on infection. Even though my daily congestion is just more of an annoyance, I do have at least 2 very bad boughts a year.

This is interesting.
