HELP!!! IM TERRIFIED!! Food stuck in Nasal/Sinus Cavity!!!
Im so scared!!
Yesterday morning i was eating breakfast and i felt the urge to sneeze while i was eating, i tried to keep the sneeze in so when it finally did happen i think some food went up my nose instead of down my throat if that makes sense.
usually when this happens its not a big deal because it will just come out of the nose.......but this time its not coming out!
ive tried to blow and massage my nose and all that comes out is snot and mucus no food particle...i thought i might have swallowed it and maybe there isnt anything in my nose at all but when i try to breathe out of my left nostril i definitely feel that theres something in there.
im really scared that the food will just stay in my sinus cavity and rot and cause an infection.... ive previously had an infection with an unrelated nose surgery so im extra paranoid if something should happen again...
so my question is
1.) has this happened to anyone else? pls share ur experience as to what happened
2.) does anyone know how to properly perform self nasal irrigation? i went on ****pedia and it says u can make a warm saline solution and basically pour it into one nostril and have it come out the other..but how do u avoid water getting into ur lungs and have it come out the other nostril??

I have never had anything like you are experiencing but as far as nasal irrigation goes, I do know about that. Mix a warm saline solution (about 1/2 tsp salt for every 8 ounces of water). Then lean over a sink or in the shower and gently pour the water into one nostril. While doing this make an "ahhh" sound out of your mouth. This prevents any water from getting down your throat or into your lungs. Just be careful not to accidently inhale while pouring the water in your nose. As far as getting the water to come out the other nostril, as long as your pour the water in one, it will come out the others side simply because of the path of the nasal cavities so no worries! Just an fyi, after doing the nasal irrigation, don't be alarmed if some left over water comes out of your nose at random times for the next hour our two, it is perfectly normal!

thanks shanna i will try ur recc for saline solution out! as for it never happening to you...im curious about that?
have u ever laughed/sneezed/choked while u were eating? if so what happened? the food didnt go down the wrong way or up your nose?
