Sinusitis - Sinus Problems Message Board

My doctor told me I have chronic sinusitis which she judged from an MRI. My GP gave me an antibiotic to clear it up, but if it is chronic do I need to take an antibiotic. Won't it just come back anyways? I don't have the nose dripping problem and my throat is fine, but my face feels like it's going to fall off sometimes it hurts so bad.

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. I've read that fibro sufferers tend to have sinusitis so I was hoping to get some feed back from y'all. I take Claritin-D everyday and I just started using a saline nose spray.

hi kiddo,
do the antibiotics. yes it will probably come back. ergo the work chronic. with this condition infection is a concern. the mri does show this. the machine told on me too. fortunatly mine is mild. the saline spray will help alot. thanks for reminding me it is the season to go buy more. remember chronic just means it will happen again. doesn't say how often so it could be once a year. you never know.

I agree with BLLady.. you need to take the antibiotics to keep it from getting worse than it already is. I'm glad you don't have drip problems. I do, and it drives me crazy because it tickles my throat and makes me cough and gag a lot. I would recomend the rhino horn nasal washing though. I use it and it helps keep my sinuses clearer than anything I know of. It is a horn shaped device that you fill with warm salt water (iodine free salt), and rinse out the nasals through your nostrils. It's very easy to use, and you can usually find it in the pharmacy of larger stores like a Walmart. I don't know how to draw a picture of what it looks like any better that this, sorry. You should be able to do a search and find it though. Oh, and thanks for joining us.. great group of folks here.

flonase and saline works for me i havent had a problem in 4 yrs now charllene

Sherryrenee, you're where my son is right now only the doc didn't give him the antibiotic and I'm about to scream with it all. Every day he comes in from college, he can hardly think long enough to do his work and to do the college homework. The last thing I gave him to try was the icyhot stick. He's been raised not to whine so he goes into that doc's office saying one thing--sinus pain. He doesn't report the headaches that are killing him and they don't ask, has your head been hurting? So they give him singulaire expecting that to do the trick... right. I'd sure take the antibiotic and hope with me that they will give my son the same.

I have chronic sinusitis, too, and have since the early 90's. The flonase and the sinus washes and vitamins and asthma medicines do help, I think; but only after the infection is cleared. All that stuff makes it harder for the infection to wreak such havoc or something. But if you don't want that antibiotic, can you send it here? Feel better!
