Had sinus surgery the 16th....but still have sinus and allergy problems! - Sinus Problems Message Board

I had sinus surgery Oct 16th and i still have problems. They had to fix the right side due to it being crooked and then they had to fix both sides to help me breath easier...it had a big long name but don't know what it was. But I still get the pain and pressure and now all I do is sneeze and my nose runs and my throat hurts and my ears hurt worse than before the surgery. Now it seems like it is more allergy problems than anything but ent always tells me my ears look fine....then why do they hurt and feel plugged all the time? Any ideas or anyone that has had it done let me know something.

What type of surgical follow up and medical regimen did they recommend after the surgery?

For the surgery to be successful it's really important that the follow up be done correctly. They should schedule a couple of follow up appointments to remove crusts (scabs) to keep scar tissue from forming. You should be irrigating daily (or 2-3 times a day) using a SinusRinse bottle or neti pot, and you still need to be on an allergy management regimen.

The surgery doesn't solve allergy problems - it helps reverse their impact - so it's very important that you keep your allergies under control so that the sinus issues don't come back.

That is correct. Unless you remove the irritant, your allergies will continue to exist. Because you're like most all other allergy sufferers, you're probably sensitive to grasses, trees, molds, & etc. The point being that it's practically impossible to remove these from your environment. Thus, you need a good allergy mgt plan to minimize your symptoms. Your symptoms probably feel even worse than usual because your nose / sinus area is so sensitive right now.

Quick question , I do not know where the " allergy " has came from ?
I have the swollen turbinate thing going on , and did hope as no chemical so far has helped that by having the turbinates reduced and septom straightened that would improve my condition! But having read your comments seems as though swelling may return ? any advice.
