Can flagyl be used to treat a sinus infection? - Sinus Problems Message Board

Hi everyone. I am suffering from yet another nasty sinus infection. My doctor can't get me in for a few days and I am hurting!! I remembered that I have a full refill of flagyl available (prescribed for iud insertion). I also remember the obgyn saying that "this stuff will kill anything!". So my question is, will it work for my sinus infection?

Flagyl is not typically prescribed for sinus infections. It is an antibiotic that is primarily used to tread anaerobic bacteria (those that live in areas with little oxygen) and some parasites.

There's no way to say for sure that it won't work, but it's probably not going to be that effective against the types of bacteria that are typically active in sinus infections.
