Sinus Cyst

Around 18months ago i fainted, and struck my head on a concrete floor. A few days later I had concussion symptoms, which my doctor said was normal. But, about a month after the accident, I started getting really bad headaches and was given Amitriptyline to ease the pain (alters the perception of pain rather than a 'pain killer').

My headaches have not been getting better over the past 18 months. I started doing my own research and found alot of my symptoms pointed to something sinus related.

I recently had a CT scan which showed that most of my right maxillary sinus was filled, with what I was told were mucus retention cysts. Could this be the cause of my terrible headaches, which last pretty much all day every day? they tend to be around the eyes and alot of the time feel like pressure behind the eyes and in the cheek of face. The headaches tend to be both sides, not just the right side.

Has anyone experienced something similar? The ENT specialist recommended surgery to improve drainage in my sinuses but did not seem too bothered about the cysts, even after stressing to him how much pain and missery it was causing me.

Im thinking im going to have the surgery, as i'm so desperate to try anything that might make these headaches go away. Wondering if anyone has suggestions or had similar experiences?

Thanks for reading.

Re: Sinus Cyst

Hiya,

My sinus problems are slightly different but that does sound like a sinus headache. My start off as very sharp pains in spefici points of my head, and then gradually my whole face will start to ache. It will tend to get worse if you lower your head or move about etc. I found doing a facial sauna with some olbas oil twice a day seems to relieved the worst of it. But if yours is a little more serious this may only touch it!

Re: Sinus Cyst

hi,

thanks for your advice. i have discovered another method that seems to really help me and thought you may want to try it. its similar to the olbus oil method you sugested, but instead use 3 essential oils:

- cinnamon
- clove
- red thyme (i think thyme will do if you cant find red thyme)

i dont think it matters which part of the plant the oils come from (leaf, stem etc) but i have been using cinnamon bark and clove stem, and the red thyme is just called red thyme oil. i bought these online. just put 2-3 drops of each in a bowl or container of boiled water and inhale with a towel over your head (or use a facial sauna if you have that). it can be pretty intense at first but stick with it, it really seems to work. these oils apparantly kill any fungus/bacteria/virus inside the sinuses so get to the root of the problem. i think i may still need the surgery as the cyst/cysts are so big! but this is helping alot in the meantime. hope this is of some use

also, ive been told to check you're not allergic to any of these oils first by rubbing a bit on the inside of your arm, as long as no red patch, rash or inflamation happens, you should be in the clear

im also using nasonex spray, so it could be a comination of the both that is helping me.
