Loss of sense of smell and taste after sinus surgery

A week ago, I underwent endoscopic sinus surgery to correct a deviated nasal septum and to remove one large and a few small nasal polyps. Following the surgery, I've completely lost my sense of smell and taste. How common is this? How long does it take to come back? Should I be freaking out?
Also, is complete or partial nasal congestion a week after surgery common?
