swelling in face due to sinusitis???

It is quite common for me to have sinus infections, don't know why.
I had a sinus infection last month started with a cold then puffy eyes and then i had a minor swelling on the left side of my face right next to the nose.
I took zithromax and did start feeling better, though my facial bones were
still hurting at times. A couple of days ago the swelling reappeared i do have discomfort and it definately feels like something is in there. Is it common for
my face to swell up like this? perhaps the meds didn't work or can it even be tooth related though no tooth pain it's more facial bone pain.

Re: swelling in face due to sinusitis???

Hi Fu
I too have a little swelling when my sinusitis flares up. My pain is mostly in my jaw, cheek and eye which is indicative of the area's that are problematic from my CT scan. I have had it 9 times in a year hence awaiting surgery.... so unfortunatley.....it may have returned, go see your doctor hon.

Re: swelling in face due to sinusitis???

Thank you so much for taking the time. I will be seeing an ent tomorrow, perhaps i will request for a ct to finally get some answers. Hope you get that operation soon and get some relief.

Re: swelling in face due to sinusitis???

Hello pappa 14
Saw ent doc today, he prescribed biaxin xl, prednisone, and avamys.
I decided that i will not take the prednisone and i did tell him that i wouldn't
don't like steroids and didn't feel like i needed them. I did start the biaxin
already which i don't like either, lol and will start the avamys 2 sprays in
each nostril in the am. Will have a follow up in 2 weeks, and hopefully all
will be better. Thanks for asking and hope you get the treatment you need
quickly.

Re: swelling in face due to sinusitis???

Hello peppa14,

So nice of you to ask. I finished my antibiotics and i am feeling much better.
I do live in Canada so it's cold here and everytime i go outside the cold hits
right in the nose and the pressure starts, so it's no fun but things could be worse.
Thank you, i hope you're well.

Advil Cold and Sinus is great for pain, swelling and congestion of sinusitis - I always keep a pack in the medicine cabinet.

Re: swelling in face due to sinusitis???

I'm glad to hear you are feeling better, I'm in England where the climate is considerably more temperate, however it's zero at the moment so I’m under a blanket with the heating on with obligatory cat curled up next to me!
I’m sure you have these but have you tried the snood type hats that give your face a hug when you’re outside?

As you know we have 4 paired Sinus cavities in the forehead, near the eyes and near the nose. When mucus gets accumulated in the Sinuses, it rubs against the Sinus tissues and this causes pain and discomfort. To get relief from the pain, the accumulated mucus should be removed from the Sinus cavities.

Your doctor has prescribed you biaxin.... You mentioned that you were averse to steroids. Would you like to try a drug free nasal spray or a Neti-Pot to flush the sinuses?

The Neti-pot can be used with a saline solution. A more convenient and effective alternative is a gentle drug free spray like Sinox Nasal Spray which is a combination of mild antiseptics and surfactants that rinse away thick or persistent mucus.

Good luck.
