Angry Chronic Post Nasal Drip - BAD BREATH.

I have been suffering from chronic post nasal drip and all of it's horrible consequences for the past couple of years. Being a 14 year old girl, I feel like I am dealing with a more serious sinus condition than most teenagers will experience. The ABSOLUTE #1 problem of mine is the BAD BREATH. However, I will list all of my symptoms, starting with the ones that most impact my daily life.
1. BAD BREATH.
2. Horrible tastes/smells that come from the back of my mouth. Sour or morning breath tastes ALL day especially after eating.
3. Constant white, clear or sometimes light yellow MUCUS lodged in the back of my throat at all times, causing me to gag and have to secretly find a way to spit it out without anyone seeing me doing this nasty procedure.
4. WHITE GUNKY COATING all over my tongue from the constant mucus dripping down my throat.
5. Dry mouth.
6. Occasionally tonsil stones, but if so they are extremely small and I often pick them out of my tonsils with my finger.
7. Currently, numbness of tongue and inability to taste certain foods. If I do taste anything at all, it is a taste I have never experienced before, almost makes me want to vomit. I believe it may be from medications/ using too many products in my mouth/ damaging my taste buds from chemicals or other 'bad breath helping' agents.

METHODS I HAVE TRIED

To no avail I have tried it seems absolutely everything under the sun and I have been feeling extremely depressed at my failure to eliminate any of the problems. I brush my teeth and floss twice a day. I scrape my tongue with a tongue scraper or spoon and am successful in scraping off TONS of white gunk on my tongue. However, no matter how much I scrape, my tongue still has a white coloring so I thought maybe it was due to having all of the saliva scraped off as well as the bacteria. As I close my mouth long enough to ensure my tongue in wet again I stick it back out and it is once again covered in white gunk and mucus! The mucus in my mouth is from chronic post nasal drip, as well as the heavy white gunk located at the back of my tongue. I find it extremely frustrating when I seem to never have a normal pink tongue. I then resorted to believing my nose was the problem. I figured if I could find a way to stop mucus from dripping from the nose into my throat, the white gunk & bad breath would subside. I tried at least 10 different nasal decongestant sprays but they only made the mucus in my throat thicker and taste like horrible medication. I also tried saline sprays and washing my nasal passages with saline water and a type of herbal menthol mixture that I bought at CVS. Even though the herbal mixture provided temporary relief for about 20 minutes, mucus again started to produce once again. I also tried using TheraBreath products, including the mouthwash, mouth wetting lozenges and post nasal drip drops, however, I saw no improvement and my mouth actually seemed to be drier afterwards. Hydrogen Peroxide didn't help & may have damaged my tongue and taste buds because my tongue throbbed whenever I used it. I then resorted to GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT which I heard worked wonders for many people, considering it kills bacteria and fungus in the nose and throat. I read online that fungus is often times the source of post nasal drip. I used my NetiPot to flush out my nasal passages with grapefruit seed extract mixed in water & also gargled the mixture. I have not been getting any tonsils stones lately but the GSE did not help my PND. Resulting in a bitter taste from the GSE, it mixes with the sour taste already existing in my mouth and makes it almost unbearable. I also mixed some GSE in a glass of water and drank it to help clean myself on the inside. I have noticed that in the morning when I am spitting up mucus from my throat in the sink, it doesn't seem to have quite as a horrible taste as before but it definitely worsenes as the day continues. I have tried oil pulling to eliminate the toxins but little improved. Gum & mints make the problem worse, I believe they increase the mucus production and also make the mucus a LOT thicker so I can hardly swallow. I drink a lot of fluids each day. When I went to a nose & throat specialist he told me I needed to drink more water. However, I must have drank a gallon of water one day to see if the results would differ and my post nasal drip was still just as bad. I have taken vitamins in the past because I heard deficiencies are a common cause of bad breath. I have taken Sudafed & Mucinex & Claritin but they haven't worked. I have tried eliminating dairy products, sugars and simple carbs from my diet also, but am shown no change. I worry that the cause could be very serious, such as intestinal issues or stomach problems. I have no allergies and do not experience itchy eyes, sneezing, runny nose, coughing, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Would probiotics (bacteria pills) possibly help my post nasal drip & give me fresh breath?

The bad breath is destroying my life, I am afraid to talk or even be in the same room as others for fear of embarrassment. I feel trapped and depressed everyday and often get horrible headaches due to stress & anxiety. I am ENVIOUS of others who are not plagued by this horrible condition. I would give anything to quickly spend 5 minutes in the bathroom just brushing & flossing and be able to have fresh breath all day and not have to worry. Bad breath is always on my mind & it prevents me from living my life. I am very well liked but I dream of how EXTREMELY happy I could be once I completely eliminate this problem. My relationship with my boyfriend has been extremely rough because of my extreme embarrassment from bad breath. I realize thousands of other suffer from the exact same symptoms & consequences. PLEASE HELP! DOCTORS ARE NO HELP. None of them understand the severity and all of my frustration. No one seems to understand my feelings, they claim 'It's not that big of a problems, move on.' I feel like screaming 'IT'S RUINING MY LIFE!' I have turned to others on this website in hope of finding others who share this same problem. If anyone has advice for me, I would accept it thankfully. I cried typing this whole post, realizing how low my self esteem is due to this chronic problem. Thank you SO much for taking the time to read through this. I truly appreciate it. xoxo

Re: Chronic Post Nasal Drip - BAD BREATH.

Ok. Im not a physician so you can't sue me. That said, I suffered from the same symptoms you described. Here's what I found. You probably needed allergy shots for either seasonal allergies or pets etc. Next diet is important. High fat diets produce histamines which also cause allergic reations. Cut back. Increase water to thin mucus secretions. Increase physical activities...helps immunity. Heres the good part, I discovered that my constant pnd was caused from chronic sinus infections. Id go to my allergist and get antibiotics and my bb would leave, but only for a few days. Then its back to coated tongue and dry mouth. After reading up on biofilms (a coating that keeps infections from ever really being eliminated) I discovered that a nasal pulsator(waterpik makes one called sinuseanse sold at walmart) with a saline packet mixed with 2 drops of Johnson and John son baby shampoo and water eliminates biofilms. This instantly helped pnd and tongue coating. Bb improved...but not totally eliminated. Finally out of utter desperation I took half of a amoxicilllin tab that I had from a previous sinus infection, mixed it with the saline, shampoo and water solution and shook it up in the pulsator until it was dissolved. I then shot the mix into both nostrils, letting it sit until it dried. I repeated this in the am and pm for two days. That did it.......5 years of pAin was done. My saliva was normal...no lump in my throat..no coating on tongue..no foul pnd. Bb gone!
I think the infection is somewhere in the sinus cavity. Antibiotics can't heal you until the biofilm is gone. Once it is eliminated the antibiotic can do its job! I pray this helps you...i understand what youve been through..i think this is your soultion! God bless!

Re: Chronic Post Nasal Drip - BAD BREATH.

I have been trying to eliminate dairy & high fat food from my diet but have seen no positive results. I'm definitely going to try the nasal pulsator, I've tried a saline solution before but I didn't see much improvement. Will it still do the same job if I just put the saline packets & the baby shampoo? And what exactly does the shampoo do? I will research the amoxicillin tabs and try that as well. What you said about the biofilms makes sense, I thought my pnd was due to chronic sinus infections but I couldn't figure out how that was possible! Thank you so very much for sharing your thoughts with me! It's encouraging to talk with someone with the same problems as I have. God bless you, you have given me hope<3

Re: Chronic Post Nasal Drip - BAD BREATH.

The shampoo eliminates biofilms. I don't know how but it works.

Also the sinusense pulsator comes with Sodium bicarbonate Packets. Mix with water then add 2 drops of shampoo. The pulsator has a compartment that holds the mixture. You will notice a big difference in the amount and consistency of your pnd. That may be enough for you. I had to add the antibiotic. After that my overall health improved. I still use the pulsator daily, without shampoo or antibiotic. It gets the cillia functioning properly again so rather than have gunk on your tongue, mucus flows down your throat as it should.

Also if you ever notice excessive clear mucus...that usually an allergy situation.

Colored mucus (green or yellow) usually infection. The one you dont hear much about is the white or milky variety. This is usually infection too. This is what has been on your tongue and pooling in your throat giving you the bb. You have to treat the source rather than the symptom here. I think there Theres an infection in the upper sinus covered with biofilm that is very hard to treat. Pretty rare I think. So if you stop gunk from oozing it wont coat your tongue or pool in your throat. Your tongue will be pink and healthy! Good luck!

Re: Chronic Post Nasal Drip - BAD BREATH.

I too have tried everything under the sun and what u say with the anitibiotics make very much sense. As i too have the bb stop with antibiotics and come right back after complete, so i do feel that the issue is up in the sinus cavity. I have tried everything else so why not try this, it sounds very logical. Im unclear though on how to do the exact procedure. I will find a way to get the amoxicilian tab but u say u do this for two days: do i need to change out the mix after a certain amount of hours or is it okay to sit for the two days. I am very anxious to try this procedure, i just need the specifics on exactly how, as i wana make sure i do it right to hopefully get the results you did. Im 40 and have been dealing with this for all my life, its time for a breakthrough. Please respond soon :-) #not giving up hope

Re: Chronic Post Nasal Drip - BAD BREATH.

You are not alone in your feelings, i can 110% relate with wat u are goin thru, have tried every single possible thing there is to try; all the gimmicks, breath assure, therabreath, Oxygene, Closis, anything u name it for so many years. I wana know did u try the procedure for dzway2 with the irrigator shampoo and amoxicillian tab. Im gona try it, but im waiting for him to respond back to my post on the exact exact procedure because i wana make sure i do it right. I wonder if it can be done with the neilmed sinus rinse bottle, i use that sometimes. Anyway i wondered have u tried it and if so wat results did u get. It sure feels good to talk to someone about this, i never really have until now on these posts a couple days ago. U feel EXACTLY how i do, but i do beleive theres hope somewhere. Hope to hear from you soon

Re: Chronic Post Nasal Drip - BAD BREATH.

Hi there, you girls aren't alone as I too am dealing with bad breath. I do have some post nasal drip but its not much and just on the right side. I've been dealing with my bb for almost 4 years now right after I had my 1st son. All this time I thought my bb was caused by some cavities I had (had all of them taken care of last week), and I have some gingivitis going on aswell. I spent ALOT of money getting dental work done, cleanings, extractions, etc over these last 3 1/2, thinking that by doing all of this my bb would be gone. I also brush my teeth 2-3 times a day with an electric toothbrush and floss with a water pik twice a day..and of course you would never be able to tell because of how bad the odor is! It sucks! Its ruined my quality of life in EVERY way, ruined my relationship with the father of my baby boys, ruined jobs I've had, and the list goes ON. I have read tons of other posts on this issue and a ton of people mentioned that after getting their tonsils removed their bad breath, tonsil stones, post nasal drip were GONE! I'm like hmmm maybe my tonsils are the problem, because I do get tonsil stones alot and when I swab my tonsils with my finger it smells just like my bb! Soo I have an appointment with an ENT next Tuesday and will discuss my issues with her. I will let ya'll know what happens. Hopefully she will recommend a tonsillectomy. In the mean time you girls keep your head held high, theres a solution out there for us. I cry every night after I put my babies to bed praying for this horrible bb to GO AWAY, I just want to feel like a normal person again. Anyway I will keep in touch.

-Angelica

Re: Chronic Post Nasal Drip - BAD BREATH.

Hello there how have you been? are you progressing and please do share with us any discovers you make. It seem like I can finally fit in. Its so hard finding people with similar problems. Just reading this post alone brought me some relieve I really needed.

Bad breath too is a major concern in my life and I dont go by a day without envying other people chatting carelessly with each other while i sit there only listening at the convo i so badly wish to join. What also sucks the most is that I like this girl but I hesitate to even greet her and I heard SHE HAD FEELINGS FOR ME TOO. We could be a couple if not for this PROBLEM! WHY ME! I find myself asking every night before I go to bed. I just thought I'd bring some life back into this thread, reply soon my fellow friends together we can solve this!

Re: Chronic Post Nasal Drip - BAD BREATH.

Thank you all for being so supportive! I have not recently found any solutions, however, I think I may try drinking tons of grapefruit seed extract mixed in juice. It kills all sorts of bacteria and harmful things in your body, so why not give it a try! Wish me luck, I'll update you on the results! Let's please stick together, I'm truly sorry for not keeping up to date on my posts, I will change that considering it is summer now! Together we can fight this<3 PLEASE DO NOT QUIT ON EACH OTHER, WE NEED EACH OTHER!

Re: Chronic Post Nasal Drip - BAD BREATH.

This morning before I ate anything, I put 12 drops of grapefruit seed extract in a full bottle of water and drank all of it within 10 minutes. It was absolutely disgusting (I had to use water because I didn't have any juice or at least something to take away the bitter taste from the GSE) I was desperately hoping this would decrease the mucus production.. I noticed less of the horrible bad breath taste for about half an hour but then it was back! The rest of the day was just as awful as always. I'm going to try to look up more methods tonight, any suggestions?!?!
