Polyps and cysts are actually different. A polyp is fluid-filled sac that extends into the sinuses while a cyst is actually contained within the wall of the sinus.
Polyps are definitely problematic - and almost always have to be addressed medically or surgically so it's good to hear that yours have improved. Did your doctor give you a course of oral steroids to shrink the polyps? That generally is very effective (though they do tend to recur).
