Help, post nasal drip. To people with post nasal drip, is it one side only? or both?
In late May I had a terrible sore throat. It turned out it was from post nasal drip. This turned to a full sinus infection, which lasted until mid-August. It was the worst 2-3 months of my entire life, easily. Once the sinus infection went away, the post nasal drip still sticks with me to this day. I still get headaches and nausea from time to time.
All of this happens on the right side of my nose, my right nostril. The post nasal drip only occurs on the right side of my throat. The headaches all on the right side of my head. It seems to me like the post nasal drip might not be the cause of these issues but rather to try to get something out of my nostril lining, maybe? I have no idea -- but what makes me think that way is that my right nostril has the post nasal drip but not my left. I tried nasal irrigation with a squeeze bottle, antibiotics (which might've helped with the sinus infection), sudafed, alkalol irrigation, mucinex, nasal sprays, apple cider vinegar (both drinking and irrigation), cayenne pepper (both drinking and irrigation), hydrogen peroxide, oregano oil, grapefruit seed extract, claritin, and zyrtec. Nothing helped whatsoever with this issue.
The post nasal drip has been with me for 5+ months now and I seen many topics on the internet of people having it for decades. I have not had a good night's sleep since this began in May. I just don't know what to do anymore.
To those who have or had post nasal drip, did you have it in both nostrils? or just one? What's the general consensus on most post nasal drip issues concerning one or both nostrils? The fact that it's in one nostril to me and not both seems to make me think that allergies are not the issue here, but I'm not sure. Maybe some pollutant is stuck in my nostril somewhere and the post nasal drip has been trying to get rid of it through the mucus flowing out. I don't know. But I just know that the nasal irrigation did not help with that at all, so far.

Hmm. I can think of three reasons why it would be only 1 side.
1) You tend to tilt your head or sleep on your side.
2) There's a bacterial or fungal infection in that side only
3) You have a deviated septum.
I think that you shouldn't pour anything in there except saline for now. I also suggest seeing an ENT, if you haven't already. Did the doctor you saw have any ideas? I also think you should be tested for allergies, just to be sure.

xbadfishx, you couldn't be more wrong with your thoughts on the issue. Post nasal drip can be a very irritating thing and having it constantly for 5 months straight can very much destroy your life.
janewhite1, I sleep in different patterns. Sleeping does not seem like the cause of the issue. I do in fact have a deviated septum, but that was present since birth. Would my deviated septum cause problems now out of nowhere, when the deviation has always been present? What has changed? The only thing I can think of is that it might be some infection, but my mucus is now clear. No yellow thick pus.
I've seen 4 different ENTs and none of their treatment has helped. I have seen an allergist and I am in fact allergic to dustmites, however, again, why would this only affect one nostril? Why not both? So would allergies really be the reason? I have taken claritin and zyrtec which have not helped with anything, so it seems allergies might really not be the case here from what I see so far.
