Dizzy, cannot focus due to sinusitis

Hi guys!

It all started in August 2011. I felt body spasm, seems like i can't carry my head to the point that i cannot stand up on my own and i thought i was just overly stressed out. But it did not stop. I had a ct scan in Mid-September and i found out that i had ethmoid sinusitis.I've seen a neurologist and 3 ENT who prescribed me with all possible medicines. My docs said that i have taken and tried all meds (zykast, vitB, augmentin, drixine, physiomer, many to mention) and into nasonex and saline sprays. I don't see any improvement, though i can already walk and my muscles were a lot better. But still i have this dizziness and stuffiness every single day. At times, i am awake and do the normal thing but it seems like im sleep walking. Everything is just like a dream. Even washing my own clothes is such a burden to do. I cannot even go out alone because seeing moving objects makes me dizzy and i wanna pass out. I feel like there is a big magnet in the center of my head and when i press my temples, sides of the nose, head, mucus just wants to come out from my nose but it can't. It is some sort of blocked. I have no mucous discharge since then. My doc just advised me to drink 16 glasses of water. Polyps are found inside too. My doc said that this is because of: temperature change, paint, perfume, dust and pollution. Should i really endure this curse for the rest of my life? Please tell me your techniques on how you managed your sinusitis please..

What are your thoughts? Please share.....

Re: Dizzy, cannot focus due to sinusitis

Sorry to hear you are having a bad time at the moment. If it's any consolation you are not the only person to experiencing these type of problems. I too am having real problems at the moment inside my face and it's all down to the fact that the weather & change of seasons is now upon us.

To be honest, I don't know what you can do to alleviate your symptoms, as I've had the problems of dizziness & zombie-like state of mind for 10 years now. I have undergone 2 operations but nothing has been successful. In fact, if anything I am getting very irritated & annoyed by it and plan to visit my doctor this week to try & get this bad-tempered feeling that's developed under control.

I know this sounds obvious, but have you tried inhaling the steam from a bowl of hot water for a while? It might help a little.

Re: Dizzy, cannot focus due to sinusitis

Well, when I mean zombie-like I mean I don't feel myself. I feel a little disorientated, especially at the moment with the weather being a lot warmer in London.

Re: Dizzy, cannot focus due to sinusitis

I too am having symptoms like yours. Mine started about 3 weeks ago and hasnt gone away! I would get pressure through-out my head, stuffy nose, bloody nose, eye bluriness, constant dizzyness, ear ringing, ear pain. Its so annoying and im sure you can relate. I havnt tried many Prescriptions because im also going through pneumonia, i dont wanna take all these meds... But ive tried saline rinse and it made it worse cause i was so clogged up, ive tried sudafed still didnt help, i recently got Claritin-D that my family doctor told to me to get so ima try that out. But i got a appointment with a ENT next tuesday if im still feeling like this, which i doubt ill feel any better. Sinuses suck!

Re: Dizzy, cannot focus due to sinusitis

I feel the same way! Not to the point of passing out, but to the point of not being able to function properly! I can't focus at work. I've had a ct scan and the only thing my ear, nose & throat specialist found was a deviated septum. He says it's not bad enough to have surgery. I have been taking excedrin for migraine, seems like it "clears my mind". I do have bad breath & drainage from this, but it never comes out of my nose. I'm tired of this too! Been to an allergist, did the injections........didn't help! I'm ready to get another opinion!

Hope you feel better soon!

Re: Dizzy, cannot focus due to sinusitis

My issue was not as severe as yours but I did develop chronic sinusitis as a result of using a steroid nasal spray for a minor ear issue. Here's what I have learned after about 1 year...

- Run far, far away - and quickly - from an ENT who prescribes long term steroids!!!

- Sinus infections are often fungal, not bacterial, so antibiotics can make it worse. If they are bacterial, Staph aureus is most common.

- Self-administered nasal Vitamin C works miracles. If I have a flare up this renders me symptom-free within 36 hours. I use Ascorbic Acid powder, plus a smaller amount of Sodium Bicarbonate to reduce the acidity, dissolved in water. I administer this with a pipette in 'neti pot stance' over the sink. It makes my eyes water a bit(!) but produces welcome, long-lasting relief.
