Looking for help with Sinus issues

Just hoping anybody can help me. I honestly am not sure if all this is due to sinuses. So far one doc wasn't very helpful, and after docs misdiagnosed another problem I had for years, I'm not very trusting of them anymore.

For years I have had increasing headaches. I noticed when I would go higher in the mountains, it would become worse lots of times. It's kind of the dull pain you get in your head from a cold, but seems to focus around the forehead, bridge of the nose, and over the eyes. I also often have this feeling in my nose, like a burning you get when you're breathing in really cold dry air for too long. In the mornings lately, I'll notice that when I shift my head from one side to the other, I will feel a fluid (I assume mucus) slowly sloshing from one side to the other, inside the area of my head around the top area of my nose.

I have had allergies since I was a kid. Lately I notice that I don't really seem to sneeze or get a runny nose as much as I use to. It's almost like the stuff just stays up there and won't come out. I assume this is what's causing the headaches.

I try flushing with the saline solution, but I still often get the headaches. I got one the other night and it felt like I almost had a fever as well.

Is there anything else I should try? I'm worried that my upper sinuses may be completely blocked. I don't want to have surgery, because I've read people say that getting that was even worse for their allergies and didn't really make things better.

Also forgot to mention that I can breath through my nose most of the time, no problem.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Looking for help with Sinus issues

You'll need to find a good ENT, but there's lots that could be done. A steroid nasal spray may be all you need to help with your headaches and congestion, but a doctor needs to perform an endoscopic exam to confirm that.

You may also want to try an oral decongestant like pseudoephedrine to see if it helps with your problems.

I'd recommend that you skip the general ENT doc and look for an ENT who specializes in rhinology and sinusitis to get a true expert opinion.
