| | chronic sinusitis, no stuffy nose -operation??
Hello, I just discovered this great forum! My problems began last February. I had a bad sore throat so I went to my GP who prescribed anti-biotics. The sore throat went and returned. I was prescribed 4 different anti-biotics during a period of 9 months, but the sore throat never went away properly. After a holiday where I was exposed to different temperatures and air conditioning, then a 12 hour flight, I was so ill with a chronic cough, sore throat, thick head, temperature symptoms, I finally went to an ENT specialist. He sent me for a CT scan, said my sinuses were chronically infected and blocked and that he would operate me asap..as I didn't know anything about this problem, I decided to get a 2nd opinion. The 2nd specialist prescribed some nose drops containing cortisone + other ingredients, steroids maybe?? (I think). I have been using these for 3 weeks and have to go back on Wednesday.I don't feel they have worked, so I assume he will want to do the op.. I have also been rinsing with salt and using an infra-red lamp + inhaling.Everyone advises me AGAINST an operation, as they say it doesn't help, or the symptoms recur. My question is:
I have pressure on the sinuses, PND and a permanent sore throat, but NO blocked nose or bad headaches - has anyone else had this and what did he or she do? Is there any effective treatment which works without an operation?- is there anyone out there with positive results from an operation?? I'd really appreciate some advice, thanks.
