I had a septoplasty and bilateral turbinate section done on Monday the 15th. I was under the understanding that he put two splints in and dissolvable stitches in. I see a lot more stitches in my left nostril and it aggravates me more than the right side. Had my BF look and he can see the splints in the right side but not the left (this side is a Lil more swollen than right)
Is this normal?
Could I have shifted the left side splints during a saline rinse?
How long before the stitches dissolve and are the splints stitched in?
Also what can I expect when I go next Tue afternoon to have the splints removed?
Any advice or helpful hints for this day? Really getting nervous about it.
When is your first follow up? I'd call the ENT if you are truly concerned. I had septoplasty, concha bullosa removal, in May. My nose was pretty swollen till they removed the splints. They were also pretty crusted with blood, even after irrigating, so i couldn't really see where the splints or stitches were.
Perhaps the ENT only had to splint the one side more? I know that I had only really my one side operated on and they also did my septum and there are splints and stitches and they are all on that side as well, so I don't think that they need to double up the splints on both sides even though it is a midline structure, at least for the septum part. Hopefully when you get everything removed they will even out in terms of swelling. I have heard that the swelling and congestion can be bad until the splints and stitches are removed, that is too bad that it seems worse on one side.
