Need help interpreting lab results

Hi my name is Colleen and I live in Minnesota. I have felt really bad for about the last 7-8 years. I have been to several doctors with no results. I have been diagnosed with asthma, anxiety, high blood pressure, acid reflux, sinusitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, joint pain, insomnia. I also have severe drymouth along with dental decay. I get rashes on my legs along with pain. All of the doctors I have been to have just handed me another prescription and sent me on my way. The last doctor I went to finally listened to me and ran some more lab tests.

I am very confused as to the results from some of these labs. ANA came back positive with a titer of 1:640 and a speckled pattern. Doctor said this number is low and sometimes considered not significant. I have been researching this on the internet and most websites say this is a high number. Sed rate came back at 37 and RA factor 162. Anti-native dna came back negative.

I am going to see a rheumatologist in April and I am afraid they will dismiss me too. Any information would be greatly appreciated, I am really getting sick of going to doctors and not getting any answers. Thank you very much.

Hi Colly I have Lupus and I think your ANA number is pretty significant. I also know that the speckled pattern is often seen in Lupus patients. I don't know your age but you are high on the sed rate if you are a younger person. Once you get my age, (54) they consider anything over 30 for the sed rate high. Mine was up to 87 last year. Right now I am about a 36, I think at my last blood test. Your RA is high as well. I don't think this rheumy will dismiss you. PLEASE take with you a list of ALL of your symptoms. Include everything...fatigue if you have that, hair loss if you have that, hives if you have those. Before being diagnosed, I would forget to mention a symptom, let's say if it had not shown up for a while like my mouth ulcers. For Lupus there is a criteria. Google Lupus criteria, and you will read the symptoms for this disease. I am not saying you have Lupus, but you could. It is very HARD to diagnose. After having it for over 27 years, my bloodwork will do the oddest of things. My c3 and c4 are often low but ONCE in a GREAT while, they will give a normal result???

AND MOST IMPORTANT, if this doctor does not give you the attention that you need and deserve YOU BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE!! I was pushed around until I finally found a GOOD rheumy.

Hope this helps a little. I will be thinking of you. I am sorry you are not feeling well.
