Question question on Plaquenil

I apologize if this thread has been posted. I have been diagnosed with primary Sjogrens. My major complaint is burning and pain in my thumb joints as well as lethargy. I do not have pain in my other joints, yet.

Will the Plaquenil alleviate the burning and pain? What will help with the tiredness?

I took plaquenil for about 6 months. It made my hair thin. I changed to another drug and tried about 5 drugs before settling on Imuran. It and plaquenil both give me tinnitus. Both work well for the pain. I also have Sjogrens but it is secondary now.

Re: question on Plaquenil

I was on Plaquenil for over 6 years and it is worth trying. I have Sjogren's secondary to RA in my eyes, mouth, skin and a bunch of other mucus membranes that get very dry. It helped the dryness and the joint pain of RA and should help you. If not, there are lots of other drugs.

Plaquenil usually causes a lot of hair loss and can hurt your vision(need a complete eye exam prior to starting it). But I'll take bald any day over pain.

Finally had to stop it when I got RA anterior uveitis of the eyes and Plaquenil made it worse. Wish I could still take it.

Re: question on Plaquenil

Jenny,
Thankfully my eyes are not too bad. I have restasis for them but they are still dry. I've been using it really a lot this last 6 mos. Have an eye Dr. appt on Friday so will find out then. I too have all the other dry areas. Take Evoxac for all that and couldn't live without it. Have you tried that? I'm 68 so that may have to do with it. I'm also off my imuran for the next 2 or 3 months as I'm having back surgery in a few weeks.
Well I have to agree about the pain. Have you tried tried other drugs too?
