tear duct plugs

Has anyone gotten tear duct plugs? My doctor inserted them 4 times and they each time fell out. Is it me or doctor?

Re: tear duct plugs

Sorry, never had them. I just use drops. Good luck. Might want to get a second opinion though about the problems you are experiencing. Maybe this is common or maybe it is not common.

I have had tear duct plugs put in three times. The first time, the doctor put in the kind that dissolve on their own, to test if they would be worth putting in with a more permanent material. They seemed to help a bit, so he put in some permanent ones next. After a couple years, they fell out, so a new doctor put in a new type that I can see from the top of the duct. They were definitely more painful and difficult to get used to than the kind that goes all the way into the duct, so you cannot see them. But after a couple days, I got used to the irritation and now they don't bother me.

It is not your or your doctor's fault that they fell out. It is very common for them to fall out, depending on the style your doctor used. There are several different shapes, some of them you cannot see and others you can. You should just go back to your doctor and ask if there is another kind he/she can try that may not fall out as easily. Good luck!
